Houston Museum of Natural Science (HMNS) is a natural history museum of Houston, Texas. The museum located near Hermann Park features four floors of natural science halls and exhibits. It also includes Burke Baker Planetarium, Cockrell Butterfly Center, and IMAX Theatre. Permanent Exhibitions of the museum include Alfred C. Glassell, Jr. Hall, Cabinet of Curiosities, Cullen Hall of Gems and Minerals, Everyday Faberge, Farish Hall of Texas Wildlife, Frensley/Graham Hall of African Wildlife, George W. Strake Hall of Malacology, Hall of Ancient Egypt, Hamman Hall Of Texas Coastal Ecology, Herzstein Foucault Pendulum, John P. McGovern Hall of The Americas, Lester & Sue Smith Gem Vault, Morian Hall of Paleontology, Welch Hall of Chemistry, and Wiess Energy Hall. The Cockrell Butterfly Center features a 3-story glass structure with 50-foot waterfall. The museum offers free admission on Thursdays for entry to permanent exhibitions only.

Burke Baker Planetarium

Burke Baker Planetarium offers astronomical programs to visitors of all age. The upgraded planetarium features Digistar 6 that enables visitors to fly through the universe, experience the vastness of space, roam planetary surfaces, navigate asteroid fields, and watch the latest fulldome shows.


Cockrell Butterfly Center

The Cockrell Butterfly Center is a a three-story glass building of a living butterfly habitat with tropical plants and butterflies. The center also includes live insect zoo in the Brown Hall of Entomology.
