Fort McHenry known for War of 1812 is coastal pentagonal bastion fort located on Locust Point. The historical fort defended Baltimore Harbor from an attack by the British navy from the Chesapeake Bay. Built in 1798, Fort McHenry was used by the U.S. armed forces in World War I and by the Coast Guard in World War II. The visitor and education center has exhibits and it offers short film on the Battle of North Point.
National Aquarium located on Pier 3 in the Inner Harbor area of downtown is a popular attraction of Baltimore. The aquarium is one of the nation's top three aquariums. It features 20,000 animals representing over 800 species. The aquarium includes 20,000 fishes, birds, amphibians, reptiles and marine mammals. The exhibits of the museum include Amazon River Forest, Atlantic Coral Reef, Australia: Wild Extremes, Blacktip Reef, Dolphin Discovery, Jellies Invasion, Living Seashore, Maryland: Mountains to the Sea, Shark Alley, and Upland Tropical Rain Forest.
Walters Art Museum located in Mount Vernon neighborhood offers free admission to all. The museum includes five historic buildings and 36,000 art objects. The museum collection include art from cultures across the world consisted of more than 36,000 objects. The collection spans more than seven millennia, from 5,000 BCE to the 21st century and it includes Ancient art, Art of the ancient Americas, Asian art, Islamic art, Medieval European art, 18th century European art, 19th century European art, and Drawings.
American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) located on the south shore of the Inner Harbor is known as national museum for visionary art. The museum features three floors of exhibition space. Collection of the museum include about 4,000 art works by visionary artists. It also includes over 40 art pieces from the Cabaret Mechanical Theatre of London. Other attraction of the campus include Tall Sculpture Barn and Wildflower Garden.
Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) features collection of 95,000 works of art. It includes largest holding of works by Henri Matisse as well as art work by other artists. The galleries showcase collection of art from Africa; European and American paintings, sculpture and decorative arts; ancient Antioch mosaics; and exquisite textiles from around the world. BMA's Sculpture Gardens feature modern and contemporary sculpture.
Maryland Science Center located in Inner Harbor features 3 levels of exhibits, planetarium, and observatory. The museum exhibits include Dinosaur Mysteries, Follow the Blue Crab, Kids Room, Life Beyond Earth, Newton's Alley, Power Up, and SpaceLink. Davis Planetarium show last about 30 minutes long.
B&O Railroad Museum features historic railroad equipment collection of America. The museum located in old Mount Clare Station and it houses 19th and 20th century railroads artifacts.
