Valley of Fire State Park located south of Overton and northeast of Las Vegas preserve red sandstone formations, the Aztec Sandstone, formed 150 million years ago. These formations often appear to be on fire when reflecting the sun's rays. The park also hosts an Annual Atlatl Competition in which participants test their skills with replicas of ancient spears.
