Palmetto State Park located northwest of Gonzales and southeast of Luling is just an hour drive from Austin and San Antonio. The park main attraction is dwarf palmetto that grows abundantly in the park. The state park features San Marcos River that runs through the park and 4-acre Oxbow Lake. Palmetto State Park offers both water and land based recreation activities. The river offers swimming, tubing, fishing, kayaking, and canoeing opportunities. Other activities of the park include hiking, biking, camping, bird watching, and nature study. CCC built facilities at the park include picnic pavilion and water tower.
