Pedernales Falls State Park is located 25 miles west of Austin along the banks of the Pedernales River. The park features Pedernales River running over limestone created 300 million years ago during the Cretaceous period. The state park features 20 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. Recreation river activities include swimming, tubing, wading, and fishing. Other activities include hiking, horseback riding, camping, and picnicking. Flash flooding is common in the area and river water can rise in a few minutes.
