Stephen F. Austin State Park is located just 50 miles west of downtown Houston. The historical park and area was the home of the first 297 families Stephen F. Austin brought for establishing Anglo-American colonies in Texas. The state park features 5 miles of hiking and biking trails along the banks of the Brazos River. San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site located nearby features a museum, interpretive trails and statue of Stephen F. Austin. Park activities include hiking, biking, camping, picnicking, and wildlife viewing.
