Cheyenne Botanic Gardens located in Lions Park is a 9 acres of perennial and annual landscapes. It includes rose garden, herb garden, sensory garden, rocks and conifer garden, peace garden, crevice garden, habitat hero garden, cottage garden, and discovery pond. Other attractions of the botanic garden include Shane Smith Grand Conservatory, Paul Smith Children's Village, and High Plains Arboretum. Shane Smith Grand Conservatory features tropical plant collection, bonsai house, and fairy garden. Paul Smith Children's Village features wetlands area, sheepherder wagon, secret garden, farmers windmill, and outdoor giant Jenga.
Cheyenne Depot Museum located inside the historic Union Pacific Railroad depot is a popular railroad museum. The 19th century depots is known for Richardsonian Romanesque style architecture. The museum is dedicated to Cheyenne's early history and that of the construction of the Union Pacific Railroad. It also hosts an annual Steam Train Excursion in July.
Wyoming State Museum is a state government agency that collect, preserve, and interpret diverse range of objects, including history, art, anthropology, and natural history. The museum collection represent Wyoming's heritage, from prehistory to the present day. Admission to the state museum and its programs is free. The museum's permanent exhibits features human history, major industries, paleontology, wildlife, and landscapes from Wyoming's past.
The Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum exhibits the history of Cheyenne Frontier Days and Cheyenne Frontier Days Hall of Fame. Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum is dedicated to interpreting, conserving and exhibiting the history and material culture of Cheyenne. The museum is home to the nation’s largest collections of carriages. Permanent exhibits of the museum include Western horse drawn carriages and wagons, the history and memorabilia of Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo celebration, local history of Cheyenne, pioneer artifacts and clothing, and Western and folk art.
Wyoming State Capitol located north of downtown Cheyenne is known for it's Renaissance Revival style architecture. The capitol building reminiscent of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. The 146 feet high gold leaf dome is visible from all roads entering the city.
Wyoming Governor's Mansion is the official residence of the Governor of Wyoming. The historic mansion built in 1976 is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. There is no admission fee for the public tour. The building in the Rainsford Historic District features rooms decorated to represent 19th century era.
Curt Gowdy State Park is located 24 miles west of Cheyenne and 24 miles east of Laramie. The park at the foothills of the Laramie Mountains has three reservoirs: Granite, Crystal and North Crow. The state park offers over 35 miles of hiking trails. Park is known for recreation activities including biking, hiking, horseback riding, boating, canoeing, water skiing, fishing, and camping.
Union Pacific Big Boy is the world's largest steam locomotive operated by the Union Pacific Railroad until 1959. The 25 Big Boy locomotives were built to haul freight over the Wasatch mountains between Ogden, Utah and Wyoming. Today, eight Big Boys are on static display at museums across the country. One of them was rebuilt to operating condition in 2019 by Union Pacific. The engine is on display in the southeast corner of Holliday Park.
